2. Does the hospital have great physicians who are aligned? Are there enough of them?
3. Is there equal demand for the supply of services provided by the hospital?
4. Is the hospital efficient? Can it provide high-quality care at a low cost?
5. Does the hospital have valuable assets?
6. Does the hospital have sufficient and steady cash on hand?
7. Is the hospital’s debt low?
8. Is the hospital’s physical plant new or newer, not in need of replacements or overhauling?
9. Does the hospital have a good payor mix?
10. Is leadership effective and stable?
If a hospital executive can answer “yes” to all of these questions, that organization is part of an elite group, according to Mr. Phillips. “‘No’ to a few, and you’re ready to have a conversation about the future,” he writes.
