Denver Hospitals Hire Physicians to Prepare for ACOs

Hospitals in the Denver area have been hiring more physicians in preparation for Medicare accountable care organizations, according to a Denver Post report.

Englewood, Colo.-based Centura Health has increased the number of its employed physicians from zero last year to 250 today, according to the report. Denver, Colo.-based Exempla Healthcare is hiring 12 physicians each year for five years to add to its current 106 employed physicians.

However, opponents say direct employment may reduce patient choice and create monopolies.
