The project could also create 1,400 temporary jobs, including those in construction. The expansion would increase the hospital’s beds from 631 to 714 through a six-story Patient Pavilion, projected to be complete in 2013. The construction would also add new operating and recovery rooms and intensive care units. The center expects more than 35,000 yearly admissions by 2013.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development estimated the expansion project would provide an economic stimulus of approximately $835 million to the community and an annual economic benefit of more than $436 million.
