New York's Stony Brook University Medical Center Opens Valve Center

Stony Brook (N.Y.) University Medical Center has opened a new Valve Center within its Heart Center to treat valvular heart disease, according to a hospital news release.

The new center offers a range of diagnostic and treatment services, including a variety of echocardiograms and medical and surgical therapy. A collaboration with New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center in New York City also allows the Valve Center to screen and refer patients for less invasive percutaneous therapeutic treatment options.

The co-directors of the center are Smadar Kort, MD, professor of medicine at Stony Brook University School of Medicine, and Sandeep Gupta, MD, assistant professor of surgery in the school's division of cardiothoracic surgery.
