Dominican Hospital, Dignity Health Back Santa Cruz Women’s Health Center’s Service Expansion

The expansion is part of an effort to improve access to care for low-income women and children in the Santa Cruz area in advance of the Jan. 1 expanded health insurance coverage under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The completed expansion will make care available to 5,000 new patients, according to a report from local KION news.

Dominican Hospital has pledged $1.5 million to help operate the clinic over five years, and Dignity Health has pledged a $2.5 million low-interest loan for the clinic’s construction. The Palo Alto Medical Foundation and the Sutter Maternity and Surgery Center are pledging $1.5 million. Other groups have also pledged smaller amounts.

The remainder of the $6.8 million project’s cost will be covered by a federal grant for expanded patient care services.
