Arnim Dontes, deputy dean for finance and administration at Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn., was appointed CFO of Yale New Haven Health, CEO Christopher O’Connor told Becker’s in a phone interview.
Mr. Dontes will begin his new role April 1, according to a March 10 Yale New Haven Health news release shared with Becker’s.
“Arnim’s collaborative leadership style and stewardship of large, complex financial enterprises position him well to guide our health system’s continued growth and long-term sustainability,” Mr. O’Connor said in the release. “I am confident he will be a trusted partner to our clinical and operational leaders as we advance our strategic priorities and continue strengthening our health system.”
Mr. Dontes has served in his current role for the past five years. He oversaw Yale School of Medicine’s $3 billion operating budget and led its financial, budgetary, human resources, capital planning, information technology and administrative functions, according to the release. During his tenure, he also worked with leaders across Yale New Haven Health to strengthen alignment between the medical school and the health system.
Before joining Yale School of Medicine, Mr. Dontes served as executive vice president for business affairs at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas from 2011 to 2021. Before that, he held senior leadership roles, including vice dean for administration, at Chicago-based University of Illinois College of Medicine.
His appointment comes as Yale New Haven Health reported a $197 million operating loss (-2.6% margin) for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2025, down from a $46 million operating gain (0.6% margin) in the same period the prior year.
The five-hospital system had been without a permanent CFO following a management shake-up in October. On Oct. 31, the system announced the departures of Bill Aseltyne, executive vice president and general counsel, Gail Kosyla, executive vice president and CFO, as well as two executives at Greenwich (Conn.) Hospital, COO Marc Kosak and CFO Bill Degnan.
Mr. O’Connor assumed the CFO role on an interim basis during the search for a permanent replacement.
In addition to its hospitals, Yale New Haven Health includes several specialty networks and Northeast Medical Group, a nonprofit physician foundation with several hundred community-based and hospital-employed physicians. The health system is affiliated with Yale University and Yale Medicine, the medical school’s clinical physician practice.
