WVU Medicine hospital names interim CEO

John Forester has been appointed interim president and CEO of WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon, W.Va., effective immediately.

Mr. Forester assumed the role following the announcement of Skip Gjolberg’s departure, according to a March 2 health system news release. Mr. Gjolberg had served as CEO since April 2016.

Mr. Forester brings more than three decades of healthcare leadership experience, including 18 years within the West Virginia United Health System and Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU Medicine. Most recently, he served as interim president and CEO for both Summersville (W.Va.) Regional Medical Center and Braxton County Memorial Hospital in Gassaway, W.Va., from May 2024 through April 2025.

He began his healthcare career in 1992 as a billing clerk at Sistersville General Hospital and later advanced to business office manager and CFO.
