Laura Dannels, PhD, has been named chief human resources officer for UC San Francisco, effective Dec. 15.

Dr. Dannels will serve as associate vice chancellor of human resources for UCSF and senior vice president of human resources for UCSF Health, according to an Oct. 16 UCSF news release.

She most recently served as chief talent officer for Marietta, Ga.-based Wellstar Health System, where she prepared the organization as it grew from $2 billion to $8 billion in six years. Her initiatives included expanding executive coaching through technology, implementing AI for routine tasks in talent acquisition, and deploying virtual reality to enhance leadership and clinical training.

She also helped launch a one-on-one leadership coaching program, which yielded a 31% higher year-over-year retention rate among participants compared to non-coached peers.

At UCSF, Dr. Dannels will report to UCSF Health CEO Suresh Gunasekaran and Senior Vice Chancellor Erin Gore.

At the Becker's 11th Annual IT + Revenue Cycle Conference: The Future of AI & Digital Health, taking place September 14–17 in Chicago, healthcare executives and digital leaders from across the country will come together to explore how AI, interoperability, cybersecurity, and revenue cycle innovation are transforming care delivery, strengthening financial performance, and driving the next era of digital health.
