Dr. Cole will step into the role Jan. 1 and will be responsible for Cornell’s use of technology in its teaching, research, clinics, student life and administration, according to a Dec. 9 press release from Weill Cornell Medicine.
His appointment to this newly created position was approved Dec. 8 by the executive committee of the Cornell University board of trustees.
In this new role, Dr. Cole will also be responsible for developing institutional strategy and policy for digital technology capabilities for all university campuses.
Weill Cornell Deputy CIO Vipin Kamath will succeed Dr. Cole as CIO of the health system.
