Washington University School of Medicine taps 1st CIO

Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis named Maria Russo CIO, a new position, effective May 1.

Ms. Russo currently serves as executive director for systems integration in Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente’s Washington region. She heads EHR support for hospitals and health plans in Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California region.

She is a former senior vice president and CIO of Tanner Health System in Carrollton, Ga., and vice president and CIO of Jewish Hospital and St. Mary’s Health Care, now known as KentuckyOne Health in Louisville, Ky.

In her new role, Ms. Russo will oversee IT strategy and implementation for the medical school’s clinical practice and its academic and business units.
