Vanguard Names Former Tennessee Governor Philip Bredesen to Board

Nashville, Tenn.-based for-profit Vanguard Health Systems has named former Tennessee Governor Philip N. Bredesen to its board of directors, according to a news release.

Mr. Bredesen served as the governor of Tennessee from 2003 to 2011. Prior to that, he served as mayor of Nashville for two terms. Before his career in public service, Mr. Bredesen started a healthcare management company in 1980 that by 1986 was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. He also helped start several other healthcare ventures, including Coventry Health Care, according to the report.
