Ms. Steaban joined Vanderbilt in 1990 and previously managed the cardiology unit, playing a key role in establishing the Vanderbilt Heart Institute. Before becoming CNO in 2014, she spent two decades partnering with physician leaders to integrate cardiac surgery, cardiology and vascular surgery into a unified institute.

As CNO, she spearheaded efforts to redesign care delivery models, including virtual nursing, to address workforce shortages. She also led the reestablishment of Vanderbilt’s shared governance model and created the clinical staff leader model to strengthen nurse leadership visibility.

Ms. Steaban will remain in her role through November to support her successor during the transition.
