Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt Health has named Rebecca Warren, its vice president of crisis communications, chief communications officer, succeeding retiring communications chief John Howser.
Ms. Warren will take over in March 2027. In the role, she will lead Vanderbilt Health’s Office of News & Communications. She will also keep oversight of crisis communications.
She has served as vice president of crisis communications since 2023. In that post, she led development of the system’s crisis communications playbooks and response protocols. She first worked with Vanderbilt Health in 2018 as an agency partner at Finn Partners, where she led the firm’s Southeast Health practice and worked on the system’s advertising campaigns and podcast series.
Ms. Warren has helped the system “navigate complex moments, strengthen our reputation, and tell the stories of the people, programs and discoveries that define Vanderbilt Health,” said John Manning Jr., PhD, COO and corporate chief of staff of Vanderbilt Health.
Vanderbilt Health also named Craig Boerner director of enterprise news and communications. Mr. Boerner has spent 21 years in the communications office. He will manage enterprise media relations with local, national and industry news organizations, and he will continue to provide media training and counsel to faculty and staff.
Mr. Howser has led Vanderbilt’s communications since 2012. Vanderbilt announced Oct. 20 that he will retire in March 2027, ending a Vanderbilt career of nearly four decades.
