Jiapeng Huang, MD, PhD, has been named chief scientific officer and associate dean for clinical research at the University of Louisville (Ky.) School of Medicine and UofL Health – the first joint leadership role created between the medical school and health system.
In this role, Dr. Huang will oversee efforts to strengthen research efforts and improve patient care. He will focus on streamlining research infrastructure, building a deidentified data warehouse and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between the two entities, according to an April 22 news release.
Dr. Huang will spend 30% of his time in the joint leadership role, 20% on clinical care and the remaining 50% on research and administrative responsibilities.
UofL Health is an integrated academic health system with nine hospitals. It was established in 2019 when the University of Louisville acquired Kentucky OneHealth from Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health.
