UVA Health University Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va., has named Tammy Snyder as its next CEO, effective Aug. 3.
Ms. Snyder will replace Kathy Baker, RN, who has been serving as interim CEO in addition to her role as chief nursing officer, according to a June 15 health system news release.
Separately, University Medical Center Chief Administrative Officer Abdullahi Somo stepped down from his role June 6 to pursue another opportunity, a health system spokesperson said in a statement shared with Becker’s.
“Abdi brought a spirit of collaboration and a strong commitment to operational excellence to our organization, and we are grateful for his contributions,” the spokesperson said. “We wish Abdi all the best in his next endeavor.”
Mr. Somo stepped into the role in 2021 after serving as an administrator at Columbus-based OhioHealth, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Ms. Snyder currently serves as senior vice president of system operations for Rochester (N.Y.) Regional Health, a nine-hospital health system, the release said. She previously served as president and COO of Rochester General Hospital, where she led operations, strategic execution, quality, patient safety and workplace culture across an organization of approximately 8,000 employees with a $2 billion operating budget.
Before joining Rochester Regional Health, Ms. Snyder served as chief administrative officer for the Department of Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City. She oversaw operations across multiple medical specialties and four hospital campuses, supporting more than 500 physicians and 1,600 employees.
University Medical Center is one of two public safety-net health systems in Virginia and serves as the teaching hospital for the University of Virginia’s medical and nursing schools, according to its website.
