Holding the longest tenure of any president in the university’s history, Dr. Colasurdo will remain in the role until a successor is named, according to a Sept. 16 news release from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
Throughout his tenure, UTHealth Houston has increased enrollment and now houses seven schools within the university, the release said.
Affiliation agreements with Texas-based Harris Health and Houston-based Memorial Hermann Health System were extended and modernized under Dr. Colasurdo’s leadership. The Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center opened in 2022 to provide inpatient mental health services, according to the release.
Dr. Colasurdo joined UTHealth Houston’s McGovern Medical School as an assistant professor of pediatrics in 1995. He was appointed interim president of UTHealth Houston in 2011, the release said.
