Babatope Fatuyi, MD, has been named chief health innovation officer at UTHealth Houston.
Dr. Fatuyi previously served as chief medical information officer at the academic health center. He announced the leadership transition in a Sept. 8 LinkedIn post.
In the new role, Dr. Fatuyi will lead the UTHealth Houston Center for Digital Healthcare Innovation and work across the organization’s clinical care, research, education and operations functions.
He said his focus will include creating a pathway for promising ideas to move from development to pilot programs and, when successful, to broader implementation across the organization.
“An academic health center needs a mechanism for finding the right ideas, testing them honestly, learning quickly and scaling what works,” Dr. Fatuyi wrote.
Dr. Fatuyi has spent about a decade in CMIO roles, first at New York City-based NYC Health + Hospitals and later at UTHealth Houston. He has been with UTHealth Houston for the past seven years, according to his post.
His appointment comes as UTHealth Houston develops a new 10-year strategic plan under new presidential leadership. Dr. Fatuyi said innovation will play a role in translating the organization’s long-term strategy into measurable improvements.
“The title is new, but the purpose remains the same: transform boldly, build together and create impact that matters,” he wrote.
