UofL Health names interim CEO

Jason Smith, MD, PhD, chief medical officer of Louisville, Ky.-based UofL Health, has been named interim CEO.

Dr. Smith has served as chief medical officer since the health system’s inception in 2019, according to a June 27 news release. He replaces Tom Miller, who abruptly stepped down June 25.

Dr. Smith has been a faculty member at the University of Louisville School of Medicine since 2008 and previously served as chief medical officer of UofL Health-UofL Hospital from 2017 to 2019, the release said.

Mr. Miller was UofL Health’s inaugural CEO, overseeing the system’s nine hospitals and four medical centers.

“I have had an individual mission to improve the health of every community I have served,” he told Becker’s on June 25. “I feel I have done this and look forward to retirement after working in healthcare for 50 years.”
