University of Vermont Health Network COO to step down

Al Gobeille will step down in late May as executive vice president and COO for Burlington-based University of Vermont Health Network, according to a health system news release shared with Becker's on April 28.

"When Al took on the inaugural role as chief operating officer, no one could have foreseen the once-in-a-lifetime challenges we would face. Through it all, Al has done an outstanding job responding to and leading during the pandemic, a cyberattack, and the resulting financial and workforce challenges," UVM Health Network President and CEO Sunny Eappen, MD, said in the release.

"When I was chosen as the successor to [John] Brumsted, [MD], Al graciously offered to stay on for the transition. We both feel that the transition is well underway and this is the right time for Al to move on to pursue his other business interests. I know Al will always be available to me for advice and counsel as we continue the work ahead," Dr. Eappen said.

Mr. Gobeille has served in his current role since September 2019. Before that, he served as secretary of human services under Vermont Gov. Phil Scott.

UVM Health Network, an integrated system with 15,000 employees, serves residents of Vermont and Northern New York.
