Kensaku Kawamoto, MD, PhD, has been named the inaugural chief health AI transformation officer of Salt Lake City-based University of Utah Health.

Dr. Kawamoto joined the organization in 2011, most recently serving as the Helmuth F. Orthner Endowed Professor and vice chair of clinical AI and informatics.

He also leads the health system’s Innovation Lab, which launched in January, and is co-senior director of its Digital Health Initiative and founding director of the ReImagine EHR project. He will report to James Hotaling, MD, who was appointed the first chief innovation officer of University of Utah Health in September.

At the Becker's 11th Annual IT + Revenue Cycle Conference: The Future of AI & Digital Health, taking place September 14–17 in Chicago, healthcare executives and digital leaders from across the country will come together to explore how AI, interoperability, cybersecurity, and revenue cycle innovation are transforming care delivery, strengthening financial performance, and driving the next era of digital health.
