Dr. Altschuler, who also serves as executive vice president for health affairs at University of Miami, is stepping down to “pursue other interests in biotechnology,” according to a letter from University of Miami President Julio Frenk to the university community.
Dr. Altschuler has served as UHealth CEO since January 2016. During his tenure, he “helped to launch the current restructuring of our health system, focused on providing innovative and integrated healthcare to our community,” Mr. Frenk noted. Prior to UHealth, Dr. Altschuler served as CEO of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Edward Abraham, MD, chief academic officer and dean of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, will take over as acting EVP for health affairs and UHealth CEO. Dr. Altschuler will also stay on as a consultant through the end of the year.
