University of Maryland Medical Center taps physician-in-chief

Baltimore-based University of Maryland Medical Center has tapped Roberto Machado, MD, to serve as physician-in-chief.

Dr. Machado has also been appointed chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, according to a July 21 news release from the university. He succeeds Stephen Davis, MD, who has chaired the department since 2009.

Dr. Machado currently is the chief of pulmonary, critical care, sleep and occupational medicine and the Dr. Calvin H. English professor of medicine at Indianapolis-based Indiana University.
