In his role as dean, Dr. Polonsky will oversee the University’s research and education programs in the biological sciences and medicine. As executive vice president, he will report directly to the president and oversee the University of Chicago Medical Center. He succeeds James Madara, MD, who served as CEO before the title was changed to executive vice president for Dr. Polonsky.
Dr. Polonsky is a prominent diabetes researcher, physician and educator who previously served as chair of the department of medicine at Washington University in St. Louis and physician-in-chief at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Dr. Polonsky will begin work on Oct. 1.
