University Hospitals taps former UnitedHealthcare CMO for clinical leadership role: 5 notes

Cleveland-based University Hospitals selected Peter J. Pronovost, MD, PhD, to serve as its chief clinical transformation officer, effective immediately.

Here are five notes:

1. Dr. Pronovost most recently served as senior vice president for clinical strategy and CMO at UnitedHealthcare.

2. Prior to that, he worked at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Medicine for two decades, most recently serving as senior vice president for patient safety and quality as well as founder and director of the Johns Hopkins Medicine Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality.

3. A noted patient safety expert and critical care physician, Dr. Pronovost is an advisor to the World Health Organization’s World Alliance for Patient Safety.

4. He received a MacArthur Foundation “genius grant” in 2008.

5. Dr. Pronovost has also been listed as one of Time’s 100 most influential people in the world.
