Cleveland-based University Hospitals named Melissa Cohen vice president of venture development and investment at UH Ventures, the health system’s innovation and commercialization arm.
In the newly created role, Ms. Cohen will oversee the design, operation and deployment of UH Ventures’ investment vehicles, according to a Sept. 16 news release shared with Becker’s. Her responsibilities include fund strategy and governance, investment and portfolio management, new venture formation, capital development and strategic partnerships.
Ms. Cohen will also work with University Hospitals’ finance leadership to align venture investments, company formation and portfolio strategy with the health system’s long-term financial and strategic goals.
She most recently served as chief innovation and transformation officer at Centralus Health System, formerly Cayuga Health. In that role, she led clinical and administrative transformation efforts, helped develop the system’s digital and AI strategy, and worked on new business development through internal ventures and external partnerships.
Previously, Ms. Cohen built and led the venture fund at Evanston, Ill.-based Endeavor Health, formerly NorthShore-Edward-Elmhurst Health, where she worked on investments in digital health, software, medical devices and healthcare services, as well as strategic partnerships and joint ventures.
