Igho Ofotokun, MD, will join University Hospitals in Cleveland as chair of the department of medicine and physician-in-chief, effective Oct. 1, 2025.

Dr. Ofotokun currently serves as the Grady distinguished professor of medicine at Emory University’s School of Medicine in Atlanta, is professor of behavioral social and health education sciences at Emory’s Rollins School of Public Health and is a staff physician at Atlanta-based Grady Health System. He also serves as associate dean for research development at Emory School of Medicine and is co-director of the Emory Center for AIDS Research Clinical Core.

Dr. Ofotokun will also be nominated by Cleveland-based Case Western Reserve University President Eric Kaler, PhD, as chair of the School of Medicine’s department of medicine at University Hospitals’ Cleveland Medical Center.

Dr. Ofotokun’s clinical work focuses on addressing the long-term effects of HIV among vulnerable populations, as well as how age-related comorbidities threaten healthy aging persons with HIV.

“We look forward to welcoming Dr. Ofotokun to our UH team,” said Nicole Maronian, MD, president, UHMG, and the Richard W. and Patricia R. Pogue leadership chair in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. “As a clinician-scientist with global ties, we know he’ll be a great addition to help lead our team of physicians and help enhance our research efforts across the world.”
