San Antonio-based University Health has promoted Kevin Barron to vice president of payer relations, expanding his leadership role in the health system’s managed care strategy.

“In this role, I remain focused on managed care contracting and payer relations, now with an even greater emphasis on building partnerships that help ensure every patient across South Texas has access to high-quality, sustainable care,” Mr. Barron told Becker’s. “By aligning payer strategies with our financial stewardship and mission-driven purpose, we’re working to improve outcomes that matter most to the people we serve.”

The promotion comes as University Health takes a more hands-on approach to revenue cycle operations — embedding payer strategy directly into day-to-day workflows to push back against rising denial rates, delayed payments and prior authorization delays.

In a recent episode of the “Becker’s CFO and Revenue Cycle Podcast,” Mr. Barron shared how University Health is tightening its contract oversight, launching new initiatives and recovering millions in high-dollar claims.

At the Becker's 11th Annual IT + Revenue Cycle Conference: The Future of AI & Digital Health, taking place September 14–17 in Chicago, healthcare executives and digital leaders from across the country will come together to explore how AI, interoperability, cybersecurity, and revenue cycle innovation are transforming care delivery, strengthening financial performance, and driving the next era of digital health.
