UMass Memorial Medical Center names quality chief

Nicholas Smyrnios, MD, has been named associate vice president and chief quality officer of UMass Memorial Medical Center and UMass Memorial Medical Group in Worcester, Mass. 

As CQO, Dr. Smyrnios will partner with other senior leaders at the hospital to advance quality and safety, and serve as the key spokesperson on patient safety, according to an April 1 announcement. 

Dr. Smyrnios, a pulmonary medicine and critical care specialist, has worked at the medical center for more than 30 years. He previously served as medical director for patient safety and associate chief quality officer, according to his LinkedIn profile.
