Sergio Melgar, CFO of Worcester, Mass.-based UMass Memorial Health will retire in January 2027 after 12 years in the role, according to a Sept. 30 news release shared with Becker’s.
Jeff Biesczat, who joined the system in early September, will succeed Mr. Melgar.
Mr. Biesczat has more than 25 years of financial leadership experience. He most recently served as system senior vice president of finance and accounting for Endeavor Health.
During his 14-year tenure at Endeavor, Mr. Biesczat implemented an enterprise resource planning platform to standardize decision support, financial reporting and planning. He also helped reorganize the organization’s finance function to support its broader strategy and future growth.
In his new role, Mr. Biesczat will oversee UMass Memorial Health’s financial strategy and operations, helping ensure the system’s long-term financial strength while supporting growth, innovation and patient care. He will report directly to Eric Dickson, MD, president and CEO of UMass Memorial Health.

UMass Memorial Health is a nonprofit health system with more than 20,000 employees and 2,400 physicians. It includes Worcester-based UMass Memorial Medical Center, Southbridge, Mass.-based UMass Memorial Health – Harrington, UMass Memorial Health – HealthAlliance-Clinton (Mass.) Hospital, UMass Memorial Health – Milford (Mass.) Regional, and UMass Memorial Medical Group.
