UHS names John Carrigg CEO

Binghamton, N.Y.-based UHS System selected John M. Carrigg to serve as president and CEO of the system as well as UHS Hospitals, effective June 1. Mr. Carrigg currently serves as executive vice president and COO.

Mr. Carrigg served as system COO from 2013. His previous roles include serving as vice president for operations and director of UHS Binghamton General Hospital as well as senior vice president and COO of UHS Hospitals. He holds an MBA degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton.

Mr. Carrigg succeeds Matthew J. Salanger, who is leaving his current roles. He plans to transition part-time work as a senior strategic advisor to the organization. He will continue to serve on the board and its executive committee.

Mr. Salanger has worked at the organization since 1981, when three community hospitals joined together to form UHS. He was named president and CEO of UHS Hospitals in 1994 and became president and CEO of the UHS System in 2007.

UHS is an 896-bed organization with 60 locations.
