UConn Health names new CIO

The University of Connecticut Health system selected Rick McCarthy as CIO, according to a Sept. 1 report from UConn Today.

As a Navy veteran, Mr. McCarthy has held leadership positions in civilian and military medical institutions, including serving as CIO at a Navy hospital and CIO for the Pentagon Joint Staff. He previously served as CIO of White Plains (N.Y.) Hospital, where he reconfigured the IT infrastructure. 

Bruce Liang, MD, UConn Health’s interim CEO, said that Mr. McCarthy has a proven track record of implementing effective IT solutions in hospitals and the U.S. Navy. 

“We look forward to his leadership and his strategic health care IT expertise as we meet the growing demands of our expanding academic health system,” Dr. Liang said. 

Mr. McCarthy is also a University of Connecticut graduate.
