Texas hospital CFO promoted to CEO amid ownership change

Nacogdoches (Texas) Memorial Hospital has named Rhonda McCabe CEO after Lion Star, the group that runs the hospital, reached an agreement with the Nacogdoches (Texas) County Hospital District to transition hospital operations to the district.

Ms. McCabe previously served as CFO of Nacogdoches Memorial Health for more than four years, according to her LinkedIn page. She is also chief administrative officer of the hospital district, a spokesperson for Nagogdoches County Hospital District said in a statement shared with Becker’s

The leadership and hospital operation changes come after Lion Star filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November. The filing stated that the hospital owed up to $50 million to creditors. 

“This was a very difficult decision on the part of the hospital’s leadership, but one which was necessary to allow the hospital to continue to serve the medical needs of the community,” a Lion Star spokesperson said in a statement shared with Becker’s

The hospital district voted to adopt the majority of Lion Star’s existing administrative policies with the exclusion of keeping the district’s human resource policies during a March 5 meeting.

The district will take over the hospital at 12:01 a.m. March 11, according to officials at the meeting.
