Sutter names inaugural chief scientific officer

Matthew Solomon, MD, PhD, was appointed as the first chief scientific officer for Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health.

Dr. Solomon, a cardiologist and scientist, brings more than 12 years of leadership experience to the role, according to a health system news release.

Most recently, he served as a premier physician-scientist at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, Calif., and was a key operational leader.

Dr. Solomon joined Sutter on Jan. 21, focusing on the health system’s research efforts, as well as its quality, medical education, and scientific initiatives, according to the release.

He will maintain an active clinical practice at Sutter’s California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco and plans to establish a systemwide program for aortic disease care.
