Akron, Ohio-based Summa Health has named Syed Samiullah chief digital and information officer, effective Oct. 26.
Mr. Samiullah joins from Optum Health, where he most recently served as CIO of the East Region and held a series of leadership roles with expanding enterprise and regional responsibility, according to an Oct. 26 news release. He brings more than 25 years of healthcare technology experience, with work spanning technology operations and strategy, clinical and revenue cycle platforms, AI and digital health, data and analytics, and cybersecurity.
He arrives about a year after General Catalyst’s Health Assurance Transformation Company, or HATCo, acquired Summa Health in October 2025. In August, Summa and HATCo announced the first group of technology companies working with the health system, with collaborations targeting clinical decision-making, patient access and engagement, administrative workflows and supply chain.
In his new role, Mr. Samiullah will help advance that technology-enabled transformation while strengthening the core digital and information capabilities that support Summa’s patients, providers and employees. He said he aims to “help turn that vision into measurable results.”
Summa Health President and CEO Jennifer Eslinger said in the news release that Mr. Samiullah’s experience connecting technology strategy to clinical and operational priorities will be key as the system builds on its progress.
