Stony Brook Southampton (N.Y.) Hospital, part of Stony Brook (N.Y.) Medicine, has appointed Richard Stumacher, MD, as its chief medical officer.
Dr. Stumacher is a board-certified physician in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine with more than 20 years of clinical leadership experience, according to a June 8 news release from Stony Brook. He most recently served as medical director of case management at Stamford (Conn.) Hospital.
Prior to that role, Dr. Stumacher held several leadership positions at Mount Kisco, N.Y.-based Northern Westchester Hospital, including associate chief medical officer, chief of pulmonary and critical care medicine, chair of the medical board and chair of the ethics committee.
In his new role, he will oversee quality, patient safety, physician engagement and clinical program development. Stony Brook Southampton is a 120-bed facility, the release said. It is a level 3 trauma center and primary stroke center.
