St. Jude Children’s graduate school taps dean

Steven Varga, PhD, is the new dean of Memphis, Tenn.-based St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

Dr. Varga is the second dean in the school’s history, per a recent news release. He most recently served the University of Iowa in Iowa City as associate dean of academic affairs and graduate student development, as well as professor of microbiology and immunology and professor of pathology. In addition to his new role at St. Jude’s, he will become a member of the department of infectious diseases. 

The inaugural class of biomedical sciences PhD students arrived at the school in 2017. In 2019, it launched a master of global child health program, followed by a Master of Science program in clinical investigation in 2021.
