Sparrow Carson ousts 2 more leaders: 7 things to know

Two administrators — Vice President of Quality and Risk and Medical Staff Joan Sweet and Infusion Center and Health and Patient Safety Manager Nancy Seals — are no longer working at Carson City, Mich.-based Sparrow Carson Hospital, according to a report by The Daily News.

Here are seven things to know:

1. Both Ms. Seals and Ms. Sweet declined to comment.

2. Ms. Seals, who worked at Sparrow Carson for 28 years, did confirm to The Daily News that she is no longer empted at the organization.

3. The ouster comes on the heels of massive upheaval at the hospital. Former CEO Matthew Thompson as well as COO and Chief Nursing Officer Barb McQuillan, BSN, RN, both departed from their roles amid investigations into the hospital's infection control issues.

4. In February, CMS sent the hospital a Medicare contract termination notice after a federal investigation found the hospital was not in compliance with infection control standards.

5. Jonnie Vanderhoef, CRNA, who worked under contract at the hospital, filed a whistle-blower lawsuit against the hospital in February as well. He named both Mr. Thompson and Ms. McQuillan in his lawsuit. The suit was settled in March.

6. Last month, Ms. McQuillan also filed a whistle-blower lawsuit alleging she was fired for reporting quality of care issues at the hospital.

7. Ilene Cantor, vice president of marketing and communication for Sparrow Health System told The Daily News while the organization "[does] not comment on personnel matters, our full energy and attention is focused on providing exceptional patient-centered and quality care at Sparrow Carson Hospital."
