SLU working toward succession plan for medical school dean, names Dr. Robert Heaney CEO of physician group

Saint Louis University officials are developing a succession plan for medical school dean, Philip Alderson, MD, and have appointed Robert M. Heaney, MD, CEO of the university's physician group, SLUCare, effective immediately, according to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch report.

Dr. Alderson, who also serves as SLU vice president for medical affairs and oversees SLUCare, will continue in his role until a successor is named, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Once his successor is in place, Dr. Alderson will take a sabbatical before returning to the "phased retirement program" to assist with fundraising and other duties.

Dr. Heaney, who most recently served as senior associate dean for clinical affairs, will report to Dr. Alderson and serve as CEO through December 2016, according to the report, which cites a university announcement.

"This appointment will allow for overlap with the arrival of the new dean of the School of Medicine. At that time, we will have additional conversations about the administrative structure of SLUCare," the university said.
