Sergio Melgar Named CFO of UMass Memorial Health Care

UMass Memorial Health Care, based in Worcester, Mass., has named Sergio Melgar executive vice president and CFO, effective Jan. 13.

Mr. Melgar will oversee the finances of the $2.3 billion UMass Memorial system, which posted a $35.2 million operating loss in fiscal year 2013 and has undergone several rounds of layoffs recently. However, UMass Memorial still recorded $68.9 million in profit when factoring in nonoperating income, like investments, according to the Massachusetts Center for Health Information and Analysis.

Previously, Mr. Melgar served as CFO of Christus Health’s international operations in Santiago, Chile. He also was CFO of University of Kentucky HealthCare in Lexington.
