Sanford Health reshapes C-suite with 2 new executives

Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health has restructured several leadership responsibilities following the departure of chief of staff Andy Wentzy.

The restructured leadership responsibilities are “intended to ensure we have the necessary capabilities and experience at the table to maintain momentum toward our goals in an increasingly dynamic healthcare landscape,” Mr. Gassen wrote.

Ryan Nelson has been appointed senior executive adviser to the CEO. He joins Sanford Health after serving as chief of staff to U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune. In his new role, Mr. Nelson will be responsible for aligning CEO office activities with system priorities and providing counsel on key matters.

Additionally, Nathan Peterson has returned to Sanford Health as executive vice president and chief strategy officer.

Mr. Peterson previously spent 13 years at the system, holding roles including chief of staff and chief strategy and development officer. During his time away, he pursued a cyber operations degree at Dakota State University in Madison, S.D. 

In his new role, Mr. Peterson will focus on strategic growth, system governance with the board of trustees, strategic development opportunities and partnership identification.
