Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn (D) had promised not to let the safety-net hospital close, but hospital officials were told over the weekend the state could not come up with the funds, according to the report.
Roseland will close Wednesday unless it comes up with $600,000 for payroll. The hospital, which serves a primarily uninsured population in the city’s South Side, owes about $7 million in outstanding bills older than 90 days. Last month, the hospital laid off 68 employees and implemented pay cuts for others.
