Providence hospital names chief medical officer

Joe Kim, MD, has been named chief medical officer of Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Calif., effective Jan. 4. 

Dr. Kim has more than 15 years of experience in leadership at academic medical centers and integrated health systems. He joins Renton, Wash.-based Providence from MemorialCare Long Beach (Calif.) Medical Center, where he has served as CMO for the past four years. 

At Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center, he will be responsible for quality and safety initiatives, and the hospital’s overall strategy to improve patient outcomes and experience. 

Dr. Kim was recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as a “CMO to Know” in 2024 for his leadership in expanding virtual care, reducing clinical variation and improving quality outcomes. At MemorialCare, he helped lead the hospital’s journey to becoming a high reliability organization and oversaw the growth of telehealth and AI initiatives, as well as graduate medical education program.
