Providence Health System in Washington, DC, will get new CEO: 6 things to know

Darcy Burthay, MSN, BSN, RN, has been named president and CEO of Providence Health System in Washington, D.C., part of St. Louis-based Ascension, effective July 1.

Here are six things to know about Ms. Burthay.

1. She has served as managing director of home care services for Ascension Health, the healthcare delivery subsidiary of Ascension, since 2014.

2. She played a key role in the development, launch and strategic direction of Ascension At Home, Ascension's partnership with Dallas-based Evolution Health providing post-acute services including home care, hospice care and infusion therapy in Ascension Ministry Markets, according to a news release.

3. She will continue to serve as a member of the Ascension At Home Board.

4. Previously, Ms. Burthay was COO and CNO of St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital, part of the Ascension Indiana Ministry Market.

5. She also previously spent nearly 25 years with St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo, Ind., in various roles, including president and CEO and vice president of patient care services/CNO.

6. In her new role, Ms. Burthay replaces Duane Erwin, who has served as interim president and CEO of Providence Health System since November 2015.
