Jamie Wiggins, PhD, RN, was appointed executive vice president, COO and chief nursing executive at Phoenix Children’s.
The combined role brings operational and nursing leadership together as the health system grows, according to an Aug. 24 news release. Phoenix Children’s is pursuing Magnet designation, and the release said Dr. Wiggins brings experience leading Magnet efforts.
“Jamie brings a combination of expertise that is incredibly rare in healthcare,” John Nickens IV, president and CEO of Phoenix Children’s, said in the release. “He is a highly accomplished operations and nursing executive and a lifelong pediatric nurse. His experience leading complex pediatric organizations will be invaluable in a role that touches so many aspects of our health system.”
Dr. Wiggins most recently served as executive vice president and COO at Little Rock-based Arkansas Children’s, according to the release. He previously was senior vice president, chief clinical officer and CNO at Manning Family Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, and held clinical and operational leadership roles at Miami-based Nicklaus Children’s Health System, Minneapolis-based Children’s Minnesota and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in San Francisco.
He has also served as an assistant professor in the department of health policy and management at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock and as an adjunct instructor at LSU Health Sciences Center School of Nursing in New Orleans, the release said.
Phoenix Children’s comprises four hospital campuses, four pediatric specialty and urgent care centers, 12 community pediatric practices, 20 outpatient clinics, two ambulatory surgery centers and seven community-service outpatient clinics across Arizona.
