Dr. Cerise and Parkland Health have not finalized a contract, so his salary and start date are yet to be determined.

Dr. Cerise most recently served as associate dean for clinical affairs at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Prior to that, he served as secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, overseeing Louisiana Medicaid, Office of Public Health, Office of Mental Health, Office of Citizens with Developmental Disabilities and the Office of Addictive Disorders.

Parkland Health has not had a permanent CEO since December 2011 when the hospital’s board of managers did not renew Ron Anderson‘s, MD, contract. Thomas Royer has been serving as interim CEO since then.
