OHSU Healthcare names MU Health exec CEO

Portland-based Oregon Health & Science University Healthcare tapped Mitch Wasden, EdD, CEO of Columbia-based University of Missouri Health Care, as CEO effective March 1.

Here are six things to know about Mr. Wasden's appointment.

1. He will replace interim OHSU Healthcare CEO Timothy Goldfarb, who acted as CEO from August to December of this year.

2. Mr. Wasden will lead and manage all OHSU Healthcare operations, including financial performance and care delivery. "In my first six months at OHSU, my priorities will be to develop strong relationships with medical and administrative leaders and gain an in-depth understanding of the challenges, strengths and culture of OHSU," Mr. Wasden said in a prepared statement.

3. He will also be a member of the OHSU Partners leadership group and will be responsible for executing the strategy of OHSU Partners within the OSHU Healthcare system.

4. Mr. Wasden has been CEO of MU Health since January 2013. He oversees the health system's network of specialty hospitals and more than 50 outpatient clinics. Before becoming MU Health's CEO, he was the system's COO beginning in June 2012.   

5. He previously served as CEO for Baton Rouge, La.-based Ochsner Medical Center. Mr. Wasden's other previous positions include COO and vice president of Tympany Medical in Stafford, Texas, and vice president of clinical services for Ochsner Health System in New Orleans. 

6. Mr. Wasden earned a doctor of education degree from George Washington (D.C.) University, a master's degree in health services administration from Ann Arbor-based University of Michigan and a bachelor's degree from Provo, Utah-based Brigham Young University.
