Sean McGlone was named president and CEO of the Ohio Hospital Association, effective Oct. 17.

Mr. McGlone is being promoted from senior vice president and general counsel, a role he has held as part of the association’s executive leadership team, according to an Aug. 19 news release. The board appointed him following a national search launched in March.

He will lead an association representing 250 hospitals and 17 health systems, succeeding Mike Abrams, who has led OHA since February 2012 and announced his retirement earlier this year.

Mr. McGlone joined OHA in 2009 as associate general counsel and director of health policy. He previously practiced in the healthcare group at Bricker & Eckler, now Bricker Graydon Wyatt, and served as a legislative aide and caucus liaison for former Ohio House Speaker Jo Ann Davidson.

Steve Markovich, MD, president and CEO of Columbus-based OhioHealth and chair of the OHA board, said in the release that Mr. McGlone’s vision, energy and ability to engage members, policymakers and partners will help ensure the association advances its priorities of advocacy, economic sustainability and workforce.

Established in 1915, OHA was the nation’s first state hospital association.
