Guy Hudson, MD, took the helm as president and CEO of Brewer, Maine-based Northern Light Health Oct. 15, according to a health system news release shared with Becker’s.
Dr. Hudson succeeds Tim Dentry, who has led Northern Light Health since 2020 and announced his retirement in April.
“When I looked at Northern Light Health, I immediately knew this was the right path,” Dr. Hudson said in the release. “It has been rough after COVID, and a lot of health systems are having difficulties getting back up on their feet. I think Northern Light has a real opportunity to rise and keep moving forward.”
Dr. Hudson brings deep experience as a pediatric urologic surgeon and healthcare executive.
He previously served as chief executive of Renton, Wash.-based Providence’s north division, covering Puget Sound, Wash., and Alaska, and as president and CEO of Seattle-based Swedish Health Services.
Dr. Hudson stepped down from those roles in 2023 and returned to clinical practice as a pediatric urologic surgeon in Boise, Idaho, according to the release. He has also participated in international medical missions, providing care in Guatemala and Uganda.
Northern Light Health includes nine member hospitals with 987 licensed beds, a single physician-led medical group, eight nursing homes with 585 long-term care beds, five emergency transport members and 37 primary care locations, according to its website. The health system employs more than 10,000 people in Maine.
