Ms. Schanel joined the Moses Cone health services division in 2002. In 2005, she was named vice president and service line administrator for the hospital.
She succeeds Tom Gettinger, who took a position with WakeMed in Raleigh, N.C., in May. Ms. Schanel will begin work on Aug. 9.
