North Carolina health system CEO to retire after 18 years

Michael Nagowski, CEO of Fayetteville, N.C.-based Cape Fear Valley Health, plans to retire effective July 1 after more than 18 years with the organization, according to a Jan. 30 news release shared with Becker’s.

Mr. Nagowski has led Cape Fear Valley Health since 2008. During his tenure, the system expanded into a regional network of eight hospitals and nearly 100 care sites across southeastern North Carolina, the release said. He also played key roles in establishing graduate medical education programs and forming a partnership with Methodist University to launch the Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine.

As part of the transition, COO Dan Weatherly was appointed interim CEO, effective immediately, according to the release. Mr. Nagowski will remain with the organization during the transition period.

Mr. Weatherly has served as COO since 2015 and is also president of Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, the system’s flagship hospital.
